Loughrey Family
Family Tree Database

The Loughrey Family of America "Big Tree" is a password-protected database containing the names of more than 3,000 direct descendants of James Loughrey, Sr. and his wife Elizabeth, and more than 10,000 individuals in both the Loughrey family and related families such as the Carrell/Carrolls, Rileys, Smiths, and many more. This is the largest, most up to date collection of Loughrey relatives currently available. However, to protect the privacy of our living family members, access is limited exclusively to currently paid members of the LFA.

An older, more limited version of the Loughrey family tree is available in an add-on CD-ROM (CD #8, published in October 1996) for the popular "Family Tree Maker" software, which can be ordered from the Family Tree Maker website.

Research Credits

The Loughrey Family of America "Big Tree" represents the combined work of many dedicated individuals. Tree files were contributed by:

Denise Ayers Kelli Ann Marks Bruce Samoore
Elizabeth Fuller Carol Mays Jackie Schattner
Lee Gartner Jan McCrackin Robin Sloan
Mary Hagen Rose Marie Petersen Steve Tardio
Don Laughrey Mary Saban

Each of these files contained information researched by the contributors, as well as extensive information from other Loughrey Family members and researchers, including:

Bert Adams
Descendants of James & Ellen (Loughrey) Carrell/Carrol
Descendants of Abraham & Rebecca (Carrell) Franks
Vivian Fuller
Phyllis Jean Pankonin Hughes
Descendants of Peter &
Margaret (Carrell) Loughrey
Gayle McLeod
Cheryl Midnight
Delores B. Nielsen
Elaine Pera
Dave Rhoda
Julia Ribbens
Francis Rockefeller
Genelle Stevens

And the following publications were also of great assistance:
  • The Story of the Loughrey Clan, by Peter F. Loughrey
  • Family History of Descendants of Luther Frimood, by Bessie Brown Christianson
  • John Adam Friermouth of Barryfield, Ontario, Canada and His Descendants, by Helen Myers Kyes
  • Richard Penhallow, His Life and Descendants, by Aileen Smock DeLong & Lorraine Rivers Harlow
  • A History of the Family of Paul Riley (Ryland) and Elizabeth Loughrey Riley of PA, Licking Co., OH and Bureau Co., IL, by Phyllis Pankonin Hughes

Corrections & Additions

Because this tree was compiled from a wide variety of sources, with each of them based on a wide variety of data, we cannot claim that the data is error free, and we ask two things of people who use this database:

1. Please don't assume, if the file includes data slightly different from your own records, that this is definitely an "error." Multiple submissions may have been received for specific individuals, with data coming from several different sources, any of which may have been more or less reliable than another. When we did receive conflicting data, every effort was made to note alternate dates, etc. in the "notes" sections of the files.

2. If you do find a genuine error in the file, please contact tree compiler Liz Fuller at [email protected] with the details of the error, what you believe to be the correct information and, if you have it, appropriate source material to support the correction. Corrections to the online database will be made on a regular basis.

Finally, we encourage all LFA members to continue sending in data to keep the tree updated and expanding. If you have trees for families not yet represented, additions to existing family trees, or new birth, marriage and death information to report, please send updates to tree compiler Liz Fuller, at [email protected]. Also, please note that when sending family tree files (either GEDCOM or Family Tree Maker files are acceptable), please DO send just the names and information not already included in the Big Tree. Please DO NOT send duplicates of the Big Tree, or any smaller tree it contains, with just a few new facts added (these files are extremely hard to merge into the existing tree without creating a variety of duplications and errors, and the new data is very hard to find among the duplications).
